A Victorian Sweet Jar Filled With Bon Bons

There are so many sweets that have a place in British culture. The nostalgia factor of a classic sweet, that brings back memories of childhood pick n mixes, simply cannot be matched. That’s why they’re more than worthy of a place in your regal weekend.

But don’t forget about the new choices! In true British fashion, there have been no end of new and exciting additions to the world of sweets. Laying on a mix of both classics and the latest treats is a fantastic way to celebrate the brilliance of British confectionery.

CELEBRATE OLD FASHIONED SWEETS

When choosing a selection of sweets to have a part of a celebration, it can be easy to overlook the old guard and be distracted by the newcomers. But many of the classics are perfect for a sweet table at any Queen’s Jubilee street party.

Many sweet lovers look back on their childhood and remember getting excited by jars of sweets behind the counter. With just a few jars and some choice bulk sweets, you can easily recreate a spread that’s bursting with nostalgic flavour.

For filling sweet jars, there are so many great retro sweets to choose from that you can’t go wrong. Sweets like Rhubarb & Custards and Mint Humbugs are always popular, but you can choose any of your favourites! All classics will add a bit of retro fun to your party. But it doesn’t matter what you pick – from bon bons to liquorice – any nostalgic sweet will work splendidly in a sweet jar!

The Bonds of London range is full of brilliant, high-quality treats that encapsulate the nostalgia of a British sweet shop. They have plenty of delightful chocolatey options, but their of Especially Delicious Chocolate Honeycomb Bags are something else. These moreish little honeycomb nuggets, coated in a smooth milk chocolate, are the perfect party nibble!

There are plenty of throwback treats that can lead into fun little games, too. These are perfect for keeping young ones entertained throughout the day. Think along the lines of hunting down Sugar Mice, or the classic ‘guess how many jelly beans are in a jar’!

RED, WHITE AND BLUE TREATS

Throughout the whole of the Queen’s Jubilee, we’ll be seeing a lot of three colours in particular – red, white and blue! From bunting in the streets, to the sweets on offer at street parties, the colours of the Union Jack provide the perfect theme. From bonbons and pick n mix favourites to flavoured chocolates and beyond, there are so many sweets that are perfect for making a vibrant, themed sweet display.

Creating a Union Jack with tasty treats is a brilliant way to get into the spirit – and there are some treats that make this surprisingly simple! For example, Red Cherry Sticks lend themselves to the crosses, whilst Kingsway Blue Raspberry Cubes make the blue background simple and some Swizzels Fun Gums Milk Bottles are great for the white accents! Obviously, these are just a suggestion, you can use any of your favourite sweets that match the colour scheme.

There’s something very British about a bit of cake at a party. Whether it’s a tangy slice of lemon drizzle, a chocolate cake or a classic Victoria sponge. For keen bakers, street parties are the perfect stage to show off their creative side and spread some joy.

The Queen famously loves cakes, too, and one of her absolute favourite treats is a Chocolate Biscuit Cake.
