Organising an event can be a stressful undertaking. When the event in question is a children’s birthday party, many people will feel the pressure even more. But there’s no need to stress. With some prior planning you’ll be able to orchestrate a fun time for everyone – including yourself!

Whether you’re planning a children’s party on behalf of someone else, or throwing a celebration for one of your own, there are so many things to consider that it can all become a bit much. So, it’s best to tackle one aspect at a time. Here’s a rundown of what to focus on first, alongside a few ideas that guests – and the birthday boy or girl – are bound to love!

THE BORING STUFF

Planning list

Unfortunately, before you start planning all the fun stuff like a candy buffet or a clown, thinking about the boring bits will help you in the long run. Consider the where, when and how of the whole occasion in advance will help the day run as smoothly as possible.

We’d recommend that you start planning the party well in advance. There are so many things to consider that getting the ball rolling six weeks beforehand is ideal. This means that you’ll have plenty of time to get everything ready to go, but you won’t have to rush and add stress to the occasion!

Firstly, you’ll need to decide on your budget. Next up you’ll want decide how many guests you’ll be able to cater for (aka cope with) and then you can start to think about the more exciting bits.

Once these things have been checked off, you’re set to start getting creative and get the ball rolling with more exciting aspects of the party!

ENTERTAINMENT

It’s likely that the little one has requested specific entertainment for their party. It’s no surprise, as it will be one of the most exciting aspects of the whole party – rivalled only by the opening of presents!

There are traditional forms of entertainment, like clowns and magicians, that’ve been popular for a long, long time. For good reason, too! But entertainers come in all shapes and sizes, though. So whatever the theme of your party, you’ll be able to find exactly what you’re looking for. Pirates and princesses are popular choices, whilst you can also get exotic animal experiences.

You don’t have to get an entertainer in, though. There are plenty of activities and games that you can easily put on yourself that all comers will adore! From a slip n slide to a bouncy castle, there are any number of things you can arrange for kids of all ages.

INVITES

Getting creative making invites

With a theme in mind, you can set about choosing your party invites. You can find a whole range of printed invites at a range of places, from toy shops to supermarkets as well as online at places like Etsy!

But making them yourself is a great way of adding a personal touch to the party. Getting the little ones involved in the creative process will also help get them excited for the party – not that they’ll need any encouragement!

Kids are always wildcards, so who knows which theme they’ll pick?! But whatever they land on, if it’s a safari theme for an animal lover, or centred around their favourite TV show, there are plenty of ways to involve them! Getting them to help fill out the invites will show that they’re excited to celebrate with their friends. You might want to fill out the more important parts yourself, but even if they sign their own name they’ll love being involved. For the little artists out there, they might want to design their own invitations. Getting them to create a master copy will make this easier, then you can work your magic and print out enough duplicates to send out to everyone! If they need help matching the theme, you’ll easily be able to find stencils of popular characters and shows, so if it’s a Peppa Pig or Paw Patrol theme, you can keep things on track.

Regardless of the design you opt for, there are a few things you’ll need to include on the invites. Obviously, you need to have who’s party it is alongside where and when. If it’s fancy dress your guests will need to know that, and if they need to bring anything with them, too! The invites are also hugely useful for finding out if any of your guest have an allergy that you need to be aware of – this is vital when planning the party food. It’s also useful to chase up your RSVPs so you know how many to expect at the party.

FOOD

A birthday cake with candles lit

Kids are likely to run around, enjoy themselves and expend a lot of energy at a birthday party. So they’re going to work up an appetite – the parents too.

A buffet setup is the easiest way of serving food, whether you put on a spread of finger foods or order in some pizzas. It’s a good idea to hold back on the sweets and desserts, too. That way your food table will be more manageable, and the little ones won’t just fill up on pick n mix!

A sweet table is an easy and effective way to put on an impressive array of party sweets. Choosing a few sweet tubs is a simple way to put on a mouth watering spread full of exciting sweetshop favourites. You’ll find picks from the biggest brands, with HariboKingsway and Sweetzone, meaning you can find everything from cola bottles and fondant pencils to fudge and chocolate mice – all at the best wholesale value. Whatever party sweets you choose, you can trust the Wholesale Sweets experience to deliver the best value straight to your door!

We can’t talk about party food without mentioning the birthday cake, can we?! It’s the centrepiece of the birthday menu and is central in ceremonial blowing out of the candles. Whether you’re a keen baker yourself, or are looking to a professional, you’ll need to factor in plenty of time to get the cake designed and perfected on time. Make sure you have all of your ingredients and toppings well in advance too, so you’re not left scrambling at the last minute. But if you’re outsourcing the baking, then you want to ensure it’s booked in with the cake maker before their schedule is full. Regardless of who makes it, you’ll ideally want to have the cake ready the day before – possibly even the morning of the party if you’re collecting it.

PARTY BAGS

A line of party gift bags

As with everything else, kids will be massively excited by the party bags. They aren’t essential, but if your budget allows, they are a fun part of a children’s birthday party.

A slice of birthday cake is a must – wrapped to keep it fresh as much as to avoid covering the other treats in icing and crumbs. You’ll likely want some sweets for party bags. Surprise eggs are always a fun addition, adding a sweet treat and a toy. There are endless options with these, too, ranging from popular characters such as Peppa Pig through to racing motorbikes!

Sweet cones are a popular alternative to party bags. With a set of sweet cones bags and a selection of pick and mix sweets, you can easily put together a host of premade mixes, or the guests can make their own! This will surely be exciting for the little ones, and you can even add it to the schedule as an activity.

ENJOY THE PARTY!

With all of the effort invested into the party, it’s understandable to be a little on edge during the party. But if you’ve planned everything there’s no need to be! You’ll be surrounded by happy faces, with family and parents on hand to assist if a crisis does strike.

Obviously, you’ll be busy checking that things are going smoothly, but still make sure you’ve got time to appreciate the fun your little one and all their pals are having! And perhaps in the preparation process you can hide away a few chocolate bars or treats for yourself and those helping you!

To make the whole process easier, you’ll be able to find all of the sweets and chocolate for your kids’ party here at Wholesale Sweet. To make it even easier, we’ll even deliver it straight to your door.
