When St’ Patrick’s Day comes around, much of the world turns green for a day. Whether you’re celebrating the patron saint of Ireland, or you’re just looking for an excuse to have some fun, you don’t have to go out and dress up as a leprechaun to enjoy yourself.

As you know, we always indulge our sweet tooth here at Wholesale Sweets, so we’ve sought out some of the best recipes and treat ideas for you to enjoy at home as you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. And don’t worry, you only need green food colouring for a couple of them…

GREEN VELVET CUPCAKES

Delicious Green Velvet Cupcakes

You’ve heard of red velvet cake – well, these Green Velvet Cupcakes are an awesome twist on it. They’re perfect for St. Patrick’s Day festivities! The recipe makes 18 cupcakes with the same smooth blend of vanilla and cocoa, but this time with a lovely green colour. The recipe isn’t too complex either, so you don’t have to be a baking expert to pull them off.

With a delicious cream cheese frosting, these cupcakes are not only mouth-watering, but you can really get creative when decorating them! There are plenty of avenues you could go down, but the cutest is definitely golden Honeycomb Sprinkles at the end of Fizzy Rainbow Bites!

SHAMROCK COOKIES

Adorable Shamrock Sugar Cookies

With friends and family around, it’s lovely to have something delicious to offer those guests. And whatever the setting, you can’t go wrong with cookies!

When it comes to symbols of Ireland, the shamrock is probably the most recognisable. So, why not make shamrock-shaped cookies? With a cookie cutter and an easy sugar cookie recipe they’re certainly not as difficult as you may fear.

Again, you can get creative when it comes to decorating your cookies. The sugar cookies pair well with any flavour – we like the sound of Mint Choc Nibbles or even mini marshmallows. Add whatever sounds best to you! A mischievous leprechaun wouldn’t hold back, so why should you?

DARK CHOCOLATE WHISKY TRUFFLES

Dark Chocolate Whisky Truffles

These treats are a perfect after dinner showstopper. Your guests will be wowed that you’ve made truffles, and even though you’ll get your hands dirty, they are surprisingly easy to make! Also, it’s a great opportunity to use the flavours of your favourite Irish whisky!

Most of the preparation time for these Warming Chocolate Truffles is allowing them to cool in the fridge, so you can spend even more time with loved ones! Whilst the majority of the alcohol would’ve been cooked off, it’s probably still best not to give these to the little ones. But with the recipe being so simple, won’t take long to make another batch without the whisky!

CHOCOLATE MINT MILKSHAKES

Tasty Chocolate Mint Milkshake

In America, the McDonalds Shamrock Shake was a staple of celebrating the Irish throughout the ‘80s. Over the years it has always had a cult following, but here in the UK we’ve always been left dreaming. But they’re such a hit in America that there are plenty of recipes to replicate the minty green milkshake in your own kitchen.

The recipe is simple and quick, too. You can look at various different website, but they’re all something very similar to this: 3 large scoops vanilla ice cream; ¼ cup thick cream; ½ tsp. peppermint extract; a few drops of green food colouring; whipped cream and a maraschino cherry for topping.

To make your Shamrock Shake, you simply blend together everything except the whipped cream and cherry, then add those on top and enjoy! We love the idea of going one step further and adding a sprinkling Oreo Small Crushed Cookie Pieces to finish the masterpiece. This is definitely a shake that is worth the brain freeze!

IRISH COFFEE

An Irish Coffee With Chocolate

Is there any better time of year to enjoy an Irish Coffee? The creamy and rich drink is one of the simplest, yet most effective, cocktails that you can make. It’s a surprisingly easy recipe that yields incredible results. For fans of whisky and coffee, there is nothing better!

Combining fresh coffee with whipped cream and your favourite Irish whisky, this warming tipple is ideal after a crisp spring walk. Or, if you have guests over, it serves as a sophisticated after-dinner drink. Whenever you have it, it pairs delightfully with a rich chocolate – like the Guinness Dark Chocolate Bar, which is also very on theme.
