With games, fun and laughter, they are always a good time for everyone involved. Some people have quizzes, some play silly games whilst others opt for a calm and relaxing affair. At a baby shower, there are plenty of treats and surprises prepared for guests – a popular example being sweets!

At parties of all kinds, a sweet table is a hugely popular feature. A good party becomes a great one with the addition of some sweet treats, doesn’t it? The addition of a sweet buffet is a great alternative to a dessert table – and it’s easier to put together, too!

When putting on a spread for any event, there are a few things that you will consider every time. Firstly, you want something that guests are going to enjoy, whilst you also want the offering to be enjoyable. Given that it is easy to set up and maintain and you know that sweets will put a smile on face of guests of all ages! Here are some of our tips for putting together a sweet table that is perfect for your baby shower.

SETTING UP YOUR SWEET TABLE

Jars are a great way to make your pick n mix display look the part!

At first, the idea of a putting on a sweet table might be a little daunting, but that certainly isn’t the case. There is no set way to do it and it’s important to remember that it doesn’t have to look like something out of a catalogue! There are a few simple tricks, though, that can make it look a lot fancier!

Firstly, you’ll need to decide which table to use. The size of this will depend on how many guests you are expecting, which will directly impact how many sweets you need (roughly 100g per person is enough)! You don’t need a massive table, just one that’s big enough for several dishes or sweet tubs. If you are putting your sweets into matching containers, an easy way to add class is with either metal or glass bowls, whilst for maximum sweetshop vibes you can opt for some sweet jars! Dressing these up with pink and blue ribbon is a great way to add decoration.

If you want to make your sweet table feel more like a display, then you’ll need a few boxes (old shoe boxes are perfect) and a tablecloth. Place your boxes along the back edge of your bare table, and then drape the tablecloth over the top. Make sure that the covering is big enough and covers both the table and the boxes, and there you have a tiered display for your delicious candy buffet!

PICKING YOUR PICK N MIX

Pink and blue are must-have colours for pick n mix at a baby shower - but any pastel colour is also beautiful!

The fact that a baby shower is an event with such well-defined colour schemes means that you have an easy and effective starting point when it comes to choosing your baby shower sweets! Pink and blue are pivotal colours when it comes to putting on a baby shower, so they’re perfect colours for your pick and mix sweets! They often appear together if the gender of the baby is unknown, or one colour will dominate if that is already common knowledge.

It also makes sense to consider who will be attending the party. If it is just grownups, then some retro sweets like Flying Saucers will go down particularly well, whilst marshmallows are ideal for young children and toddlers. Generally, when making a sweet table we would recommend including a variety of flavours and textures, because that way there’s something for everyone – plus they get the full pick n mix experience!

For parties that are looking to remain neutral, you can’t go wrong with Kingsway Fizzy Bubblegum Bottles.
