With all of the excitement surrounding it, Pancake Day doesn’t always live up to the hype. Sometimes things don’t go to plan and it falls flat, or perhaps you have the routine each year and it just isn’t as exciting anymore.

The greatest thing about pancakes though is that they’re so versatile. This means there are endless ways you can rediscover the magic of Shrove Tuesday! From sweet to savoury, hot to cold, there’s very little that doesn’t work with them. But it isn’t all about the toppings – the mess and stress of a chaotic kitchen can take the edge off even the most delicious pancakes.

So, we’ve pulled together our 5 favourite tips for shaking up your Pancake Day routine. There are some ways you can make things go smoother, as well as ideas to flip the script and thoroughly enjoy Pancake Day!

PREPARE IN ADVANCE

If you know that you’re going to celebrate Pancake Day, a good place to start is getting all of the ingredients beforehand. Making sure that you have everything you need will stop any last minute trips to the shops! The recipe for classic pancakes is really simple so you don't need much. To make the batter you'll need to mix 300ml of milk, 2 medium eggs and then 100g of plain flour - and that's it! Once you've made your pancake mix, there are plenty of neat ways you can save your future self both time and stress.

For many people, it’s the toppings that make the pancakes special. By setting up a topping station, you can maintain order in the kitchen whilst also making sure everyone has their favourite garnishes. It will also make it easier to pack everything away as well!

For those that are really pressed for time, preparing your batter beforehand will save you a lot of preparation time on the day. Make the batter the day before and transfer it to a washed out squeezy bottle to store in the fridge overnight. Obviously, a bottle is easier to make space for than a big bowl, but you can take it out the fridge and pour the perfect amount into the frying pan come the big day.

A more inventive option is freezing your pancake mix. Yep, freezing it. Pour your batter into an ice cube tray, and each cube has the perfect amount for a mini pancake. According to @cookiterica on TikTok, you put them straight into a hot pan and cook them through.

TRY A NEW PANCAKE RECIPE

Red Velvet Pancakes with Cream Cheese Sauce

They say change is good for you, don’t they? Trying a new type of pancake could reignite the Pancake Day spark that you’ve been looking for! There are all kinds of pancake recipes out there, ranging from gluten-free and vegan recipes to some wild and wonderful options.

Loads of people love American style fluffy pancakes. Served with syrup or crispy bacon, you often see them in restaurants or diners, but they’re not the sort of thing you’d make at home. It’s a really easy recipe, though, and you’ll likely have the ingredients for them already.

Chocolate is unsurprisingly a very popular topping for pancakes. But you can very easily take it a step further. For chocolate lovers, the Hotel Chocolat Cocoa Crepe recipe is the stuff of dreams. It makes a chocolate batter that you fry and flip like a normal pancake. You can top them off with cream, a salted caramel sauce or add more fuel to the chocolatey fire with chocolate spread! It doesn’t matter what garnish you choose – chocoholics will love these.

Maybe you want to try something really different. There are endless recipes available, but there’s something we couldn’t ignore about these red velvet pancakes. Deep in colour and served with a cream cheese glaze, these mouth-watering pancakes don’t lack any wow factor! Capturing the spirit of the popular cake, they’re sure to add magic to any occasion.

Toppings like chocolate chips and syrup are great – but they aren’t mind-blowing. If you only have pancakes one day a year, you might as well go all out! There are so many great sauces and spreads that can become exciting pancake toppings. Any flavour of Marshmallow Fluff will be incredible, whilst Reese’s Peanut Butter Sauce is a lush and nutty choice.

Pick n mix sweets and ice cream is definitely a winning combination, and it’s so easy to personalise to each individual! You could even add your favourite chocolate bar, or even crushed cookies – anything you can dream up, really! Whatever you fancy, you’ll be able to find it within our range of wholesale confectionery.

Kids will get as excited about Pancake Day as anybody. You can easily create spectacular pancake designs that they will adore. A heatproof cookie cutter makes fun shaped pancakes as easy as pie. Add food colouring into the mix and you can make them any colour, too. As easily as those two steps, you can make beautiful pancakes that young diners will love. Imagine the face of your little ones when you present them with a green dinosaur or a pink unicorn pancake!

HAVE PANCAKES FOR BREAKFAST

In most households, the pancakes are eaten later on in the day. But there are plenty of ways to kick start your Shrove Tuesday with them.

Making pancakes may seem like the last thing you’d want to be doing early in the morning, given how messy it can get making the mixture. But there are ways around this. You could use your premade batter in a squeezy bottle as mentioned before, this way you cut out the prep time and just fry, flip and add your toppings. The great thing about this is that it works with any pancake recipe!

If you want a lighter breakfast though, you might want to try a new recipe. There lots of ways to make lighter pancakes. Banana pancakes are a simple recipe that’s quick and easy to make and is ideal for breakfast. Top with yogurt and fresh fruit and you’ve got a winning start to Pancake Day.

HAVE PANCAKES FOR DINNER

This one might sound weird. It certainly isn’t conventional, but for people who adore pancakes, it puts them centre stage.

Given how many people have sweet toppings on them, it makes sense that pancakes are traditionally eaten as dessert. But by that time, you’ll have already eaten a full meal and won’t have much room for the main attraction. But if pancakes are the meal, then you get to enjoy even more of them!

Since for most people they only make them one day a year, we’re sure you could get away with treating yourself. It also gives you the chance to experiment with new toppings and have your favourites. You could even split your portion between savoury garnishes as your dinner, and then sweet ones for dessert.

Pancakes are a rare occurrence, but one that we really get excited about. So, when Pancake Day comes around, go all out and treat yourself. Hopefully you’re now inspired and excited for Pancake Day! You can find great value confectionery for the ultimate toppings right here at Wholesale Sweets. However you decide to celebrate, we hope you enjoy some flippin’ delicious pancakes!
